Official Announcement of Amounts for Ship Pollution Damage Compensation Liability Insurance and Guarantees
Marine Pollution Control Act, Article 33, Paragraph 3
The minimum amounts for ship pollution damage compensation liability insurance and guarantees shall be as follows.
Oil Tankers
The amount of pollution damage compensation liability insurance or guarantee for an oil tanker with a gross tonnage of between 150 gross tons and 5,000 gross tons shall be 4.51 million International Monetary Fund Special Drawing Rights.
The amount of pollution damage compensation liability insurance or guarantee for an oil tanker with a gross tonnage in excess of 5,000 gross tons shall be the amount in the foregoing paragraph plus 631 International Monetary Fund Special Drawing Rights for each gross ton in excess of 5,000 gross tons. If the total calculated amount is higher than 89.77 million International Monetary Fund Special Drawing Rights, the amount shall be 89.77 million International Monetary Fund Special Drawing Rights.
The amount of pollution damage compensation liability insurance or guarantee for a general ship with a gross tonnage in excess of 400 gross tons or a chemical tanker with a gross tonnage in excess of 150 gross tons shall be the higher of the amounts in the following two paragraphs.
The amount of 400 International Monetary Fund Special Drawing Rights for each gross ton
The amount of 350,000 International Monetary Fund Special Drawing Rights
The amount of pollution damage compensation liability insurance or guarantee for a general ship in the foregoing paragraph that is a fishing boat, a crane ship of a beach rescue organization, a work tugboat or a specialized oil recovery vessel of a beach rescue enterprise shall be 200 International Monetary Fund Special Drawing Rights for each gross ton.
A general ship in Paragraph 2 shall not include a government ship or a non-powered ship that is not transporting oil or hazardous substances.
This Official Announcement shall take effect on July 1, 2005.
